Waiting for the littlest vegan, the journey from my baby to your baby

One of my wildest dreams is about to be realized... I am going to be a grandmother. As you are all aware my eldest daughter is living abroad and pregnant with her first child. Wow, what a feeling to be told that you are going to be a grandparent. It has caused me to reflect on the days when it was just her and I, first growing inside me and then arriving in my world, tiny and perfect. She has remained both to me, this child bright and engaging bringing so much to my life. Now a beautiful young woman, she is far away from me at a time where I long to be witness to her experience as a first time mom.

They are great keeping us informed and skyping with a web cam, but it is not the same. I am longing for the days when I can easily visit her again, see that brilliant smile, linger over a lunch and listen to her laugh and soon the laugh of my grandson and his mommy. In the mean time I will prepare for his arrival knitting and enjoying shopping for him. We all await his safe arrival, but I am sure not nearly as much as they do.

Time for a change

A lot has happened since my last blog entry, my oldest is living in Brussels now and the baby is off to U of T Monday. I feel like someone has picked me up by the feet, turned me upside down and shaken me very hard, but in a very good way. To see your family grow into these exciting and interesting people with their lives being well lived is awe inspiring. It is now time for my husband and myself to do more for ourselves and each other with the peace of mind that we have a great family all around us. Fall should be a very interesting time. Let's see what evolves.

Photographs

Recently someone made a request for any photos that I may have of my late brother, specifically ones that capture him with my older brother and my oldest daughter. Thus I started to search through years of photographs. I was not prepared for the flood of memories ( or tears) that would be triggered when I started to look through. So much happens in a short life, happy, sad, funny, and it is interesting to look back and feel the relationships that were evolving. Take my advice pick a day and pull old photos and look through them and then scan them in to your computers for safe keeping. They are nothing short of a story book.

Get outside

I feel the best when the spring arrives and I can go out everyday, enjoy the sun, milder temperatures and the garden. My dog is happier now too. What a great feeling to see new growth and revitalization. Get outside clean out your garden or if you don't have one of your own offer your help to someone that does, you will definitely reap the reward.

I was out in my garden yesterday and pleased to find the tops of all of my spring bulbs there to greet me. I am longing for the spring like never before. A good spring cleaning will perhaps propell me into a more hopeful mind and wash away some of my sadness.

It is my little girls 18th birthday at Easter and this is also filling me with hope. She is a very kind and genuine young lady, we are very blessed, all of our children are good citizens, thoughtful, fun loving and sincere. She will be the last to leave our home and embark on her adult life, I am very anxious and happy for her.

Here I go again

I started a blog some months back and got a bit side tracked with the untimely death of my baby brother. So here I am again. I hope this format of conversation will in time lighten my heart for now it is broken and sad. To anyone listening who may be feeling the same or have survived this horrible pain feel free to share you sadness, insight, anger, joy or anything that seems worth putting out there. My brother left us 7 weeks ago and I am now just surfacing and the experience is raw and heavy. So bare with me and join me if you are so inclined.
