My 365~ Day 1

OK, so before we get to the technical review of my photo, here is the history on the subject. I was born in Carluke Ontario, a rural farming area where my Grandfather owned and ran the General Store, the school house was one room and my parents built the house whilst waiting for me to arrive. My paternal grandfather was a very engaging man, and I have very clear memories of him even though I was only 8 years old when he left this world. Today when I arrived at the cemetery in Carluke and walked out to the grave site, I was struck by the big smile on my face thinking about him, all the happy memories that reside in my head. So this is where my 365 will begin where I began, visiting the grave site of the only Grandfather I knew.

Now for the technical bit, please be kind, if I learn anything from this project it will be what I don't know about photography, it is exciting to start something from the very basic foundation and believe me I do mean basic. I took this photo with an 18-105 mm lens and used my tripod for the first time. It was cold with flurries and the wind was howling but here it is and I think this was the perfect place to start. So tell me what you think, help me to improve and I will enjoy the memories that come along for the ride.

My 365

With January behind us we start to think about the possibilities that the spring will bring , new life, longer days, you know what I am saying. I have decided to start a project that I was inspired to begin by a blog that I follow ttp://digital-photography-school.com/. I was given a fantastic digital camera for Christmas last year, the Nikon D90, and have been very slowly and tentatively learning how to take a photo. I should also mention that my wonderful daughter in law is a fantastic photographer and she has given me a lot of support and encouragement to challenge myself. So with all that in mind beginning tomorrow I will take a photograph a day and post to my blog and ask for your feedback and critique as I go along in an attempt to develop my skills as a novice photo geek. The project will be My 365 and my hope is that next January I will look back and not only feel that I have developed some skill, but that I will have and interesting library of personal photos and memories. Wish me luck and stay tuned.

Family life

Wow, six months has gone by in the blink of an eye, Happy New Year!! Since my last post, our son has been married, our grandson has turned 6 months old and they were here for Christmas, and our youngest is more than half way through her second year at university and caking up a storm....whew!! Our son's wedding was celebrated in the Gatineau region of Quebec, intimate and beautiful, just like the two of them. Christmas was wonderful, everyone was home and Matt and Emily finally met their nephew. I have to say that it became very clear to my husband and I how blessed we really are, watching them all together over the holidays. Our grandson is a delightful, engaging little soul, easy to smile, vocalizing up a storm and charming everyone he comes in contact with. Our daughter and son-in-law are wonderful parents as evidenced by the calm demeanor of this little marvel. Emily has been caking every special occasion she can get her hands on, including her brother's shower and wedding cakes and a delightful "hungry caterpillar" cake for baby Aodhan's half birthday!! one of her favorite books. The cake was competely vegan (Aodhan is 100% vegan baby), and was delicious. We enjoyed 2 weeks together and then sadly had to say goodbye. Everyone keep your fingers crossed, they are planning to move back to Canada in 6 months time. We are hunkered down for the winter, planning a family winter vacation in Quebec during the month of February and possibly a trip along the west coast of Canada/USA via the pacific coast highway....if anyone has any advice with regard to a trip along the PCH please feel free to share.

Ciao for now
